Frequently Asked Questions

Q; Why should you use shooting incident photographers ?
A; Using an inexperienced photographer to take your all important commercial images could prove to be false economy. Quite simply, quality photographs will sell your product or services - poor photography will not. Also, the cost of our photography is often a small percentage of an overall media or advertising budget, and the images produced are created just for you. Images bought from a other sources may only be exclusive for you after negotiating a very expensive deal, this is often more expensive than working with us.

Q; How do we charge for our services ?
A; There are no set charges for our services until we take a detailed brief from you. We start by setting a daily rate, and then look what you are going to do with the images to reach the final fee.
Examples:-
- How and where the work is to be used eg:- personal websites, billboard, corporate, editorial, advertising etc.
- Length of time image/s are being used. eg:- 6 months, 12 months, 2 years etc.
- The 'territory' where the image/s are being used eg: local, regional, national, international etc.

Other costs may include, models fees, make-up artist, stylists fees, set constructions, props, travel, accommodating etc. Also any digital retouching or other post production work will need to be agreed.

Q; Who owns the copyright in the images ?
A; In the same way authors, designers or musicians control who can reproduce their works, we as photographers say who can reproduce our images. As the authors of the 'original works' we own the copyright in the Images, For a detailed look at this area go here - The Copyright, Designs & Patents Act 1988.

Q; Why don't we get the right to use the images wherever we choose?

A; 'Unlimited use' is rare for any client to request as it could prove to be expensive. Our quotes include agreed media usage, but an unrestricted license would include all possible media usage including videos, TV, CD/DVD's, Tee-shirts, billboards and more - 'worldwide' in terms of copyright. Also, if professional models are used in a shoot, their costs also reflect the usage to which the images they are in are used, so the total cost for a 'worldwide' license would be huge and you would be undoubtedly paying for something that you may not need. We can offer advise on these matters.

Q; What if we then want to use the images for something we don't have a license for ?
A; This is simply a case of us agreeing an extension of the usage license. This will need to be agreed in writing BEFORE you use the images in the areas not already covered by the existing license.

Q; If we have paid for digital files, why can't we keep all the images taken?
A; Having a license to use the images, (ie: the digital files), does not mean you own the images, therefore, the actual ownership of any pictures taken by us remains with us, if you want to alter or change any of our work, this must be further agreed before any changes are made and published. All images must be credited at all times.

If any other copies or further reproductions are required we always try to meet your requests.
